A Well-Sung Life

Dedicated to Victoria Livengood

Finding that truer voice,
Making that better choice,
Keeping that range on pitch,
It's so hard, such a bitch.

Choosing right roles to play,
Attending to their lay,
Not too high, not too low,
Leaving your tone to glow.

Picking a proper fach,
Switching when taking stock,
Letting your voice dictate,
Gaining vocal estate.

Careers, constant caring,
Touch of luck, some daring,
A well sung life takes plan,
Rings true the worthy span.

Victoria Livengood

Tom and I first met Vickie when she came to Hartford to sing Carmen, her signature role. Her varied career, which has taken her to the Metropolitan Opera and many of the world’s premiere houses, is a testament to the power of recreating oneself. We value her as a dear friend.
